Hortgro invites South African students to apply for their Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year.

Location: South Africa (must study at a recognised tertiary institution)
Fields Covered
Hortgro bursaries are available for studies in the following fields:
- Agri-Management
- Agricultural Biotechnology
- Agricultural Economics
- Agricultural Science
- Entomology
- Horticulture (Production / Post-harvest)
- Marketing Specialist
- Microbiology
- Plant Pathology
- Project Management
- Soil and Water Science
Bursary Expectations
Selected bursary recipients will be expected to:
- Submit quarterly updates and academic results to Hortgro
- Maintain satisfactory academic performance to retain funding
- Conduct themselves professionally throughout their studies
- Attend Hortgro functions and events
- Work under the guidance of a mentor assigned by Hortgro
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- Be pursuing or planning to pursue a qualification in one of the listed fields
- Be registered or intend to register at a recognised South African tertiary institution
- Meet admission requirements for their chosen course

Required Documents (for shortlisted applicants)
- Certified copy of South African ID (or both sides of smart ID card)
- Matric certificate or latest school results (certified)
- Academic record and proof of tertiary registration (if applicable)
- Estimated cost of study (fees, books, accommodation)
- Parents’/Guardians’ ID and proof of income
- Proof of any other bursaries/funding
- Handwritten essay (included in the application form) covering:
- About yourself
- Career goals and future plans in agriculture
- Why you deserve the bursary
- Contact details of two references
